Oscar De La Hoya continued his verbal assault on former fighter Canelo Alvarez ahead of the Mexican’s fight with Edgar Berlanga.
Canelo battles Berlanga on September 14 in Las Vegas, with grand arrivals set for the MGM Grand on Tuesday. However, De La Hoya isn’t happy with Canelo’s choice of opponent or the Prime Video Pay Per View price of $90.
The Golden Boy promoter has been on a rampage regarding Canelo since the pair parted company after years of success together. Despite the animosity, they did work together on Canelo’s last outing against Jaime Munguia, but both took to the stage to criticize each other during proceedings.
As Canelo prepares for another huge week in the world’s boxing capital, De La Hoya took his shot on social media.
“I’m the PPV king. Canelo vs Berlanga fight will not exceed 100,000 homes. Nobody is paying $90 for this snoozefest. I am just speaking the facts, as always. That s*** should be free,” said De La Hoya, tagging the fighters to ensure they got the message.
The wedge driven between De La Hoya and Canelo since their tenure ended acrimoniously shows no signs of being alleviated anytime soon. Should Canelo vs Berlanga struggle at the box office, as De La Hoya expects, the six-weight world titleholder will undoubtedly take pride in the happening.
Meanwhile, Canelo is planning to punish Berlanga for his pre-fight words. Speaking on the latest episode of Prime Video’s build-up to the event, Canelo promised fans brutal punishment for the Puerto Rican.
“I like them like that. So I like them to be confident and do a lot of talking. I like breaking their face when they talk like that. I’m eagerly awaiting that day. It’ll be the beatdown of his life,” promised the three-belt super middleweight champion.
Canelo vs. Berlanga will be live on Prime Video PPV from the T-Mobile Arena on the famous Las Vegas strip this Saturday night. The event will occur in opposition to UFC Noche, which happens at The Sphere across the street that same night.
