Haney vs Garcia Undercard Results

Arnold Barboza Jr. was able to navigate a tricky Sean McComb as the super lightweight remained undefeated and on course for a world title shot.

Despite finding McComb’s style hard to deal with for the entire fight, Barboza controversially did enough to take a defining share of the ten rounds despite disagreement from the crowd.

After securing the decision 96-94 and 97-93, Barboza Jr. moves to 30-0. A third judge saw it 98-92 for McComb.

Bektemir Melikuziev defeated Pierre Dibombe to retain his WBA super middleweight ranking title as both fighters suffered cuts due to accidental headbutts.

Melikuziev took control early on as Dibombe struggled with the pace of the fight. ‘The Bully’ kept his rhythm but was sometimes thrown off by the danger as the pair got close.

After suffering a horrific cut on his eyelid in round six, Melikuziev had no choice but to go for broke. Dibombe was hurt and tried to hang in there as his opponent’s injury worsened.

A short time into round eight, the fight was called off and went to the scorecards. Judges carded 79-93 [twice] and 78-74 for Melikuziev.

Result: Melikuziev UD8

John “Scrappy” Ramirez lost his opportunity at a full world super flyweight title shot as David Jimenez took the interim WBA super flyweight title.

Both boxers had their moments in a close fight through eight rounds. However, Jimenez got the edge in the final rounds over a bloodied Ramirez [headbutt] toward the final bell.

The judges’ scorecards read 117-111 [twice] and 116-112 in favor of Jimenez after twelve tough rounds.

Result: Jimenez UD

In the PPV opener, Charles Conwell made a successful debut for Golden Boy Promotions with a sixth-round stoppage of Nathaniel Gallimore. The super welterweight looked sharp as he landed slick combinations and racked up the rounds before turning the screw into the fifth.

Referee Arthur Mercante took a closer look at Gallimore at the end of the round before stepping in a few minutes later. Conwell moves to 19-0 with a 14th career stoppage.

Result: Conwell TKO6

Prelim Results

In the headliner of the YouTube portion of Haney vs Garcia, three-time world title challenger Sergiy Derevyanchenko remained on course for a fourth crack at a world crown.

The Ukrainian saw off a relentlessly game Vaughn Alexander, dropping the brother of Devon Alexander late on before seeing out a points triumph.

Derevyanchenko, who shared the ring with some of the best fighters in the world, proved pedigree matters as he took the verdict with all three judges 100-89.

Result: Derevyanchenko UD

Earlier, Darius Fulghum impressed yet again as the highly-touted super middleweight made it ten knockouts from his eleven professional bouts. Fulghum turned up the heat on Cristian Olivas to take out his opponent in the fourth round.

Result: Fulghum TKO4

The undefeated Amari Jones improved to 12-0 with a sixth-round stoppage against Armel Mbumba-Yassa. The middleweight prospect put Mbumba-Yassa on the canvas with a beautiful shot and moved on to more challenging tests in the future.

Result: Jones TKO6

In their super middleweight contest, Kevin Newman II had too much for Erik Robles. Newman dropped Robles twice in the fourth before the referee had seen enough and stopped the fight.

Result: Newman II TKO4
