WBC Heavyweight Champion Vitali Klitschko successfully defended his title on Saturday night against a gallant challenger in former WBO champion Shannon “The Cannon” Briggs in Hamburg.
“Dr. Ironfist” dominated the fight and hit Briggs with everything he had. But to the challenger’s credit, he stayed on his feet despite the Klitschko onslaught.
The three judges at ringside scored the bout 120-107, 120-107, 120-105. The champion moves to 41-2-0 with 38 KOs with his seventh triumphant defense since reclaiming the world crown six years ago.
For Briggs, it was a sixth career defeat. At 38, who knows where he goes from here besides a hospital trip?
