A crushing display of hurtful blows saw Jaime Munguia successfully defend his WBO super-welterweight title at the T-Mobile Arena.
The youngster – just 21 years old, is destined for big things as he builds a reputation as a KO finisher.
Brandon Cook just happened to be in the firing line this time around and the Canadian had no answer.
Munguia had Cook in trouble in every round and finished it with an assault on the ropes in the third.
Third man in the ring Tony Weeks made the right call to stop it.
In a standout performance, David Lemieux continued the KO theme of the night with a superb stoppage of Gary O’Sullivan.
Right from the off, Lemieux looked much stronger in the fight. Despite a straight jab putting him off balance, Lemieux seemed determined to get the Irishman out of there.
The concussive left punch came towards the end of the round and referee Russell Mora waved it off immediately.
O’Sullivan was clearly in no position to carry on and didn’t know what had hit him.
Speaking to HBO’s Max Kellerman, ex-IBF title holder Lemieux set his sights on facing any of the top middleweights in the world.
Prior to Lemieux, former pound for pound king Roman Gonzalez is back in the win column following a sickening knockout of Moises Fuentes.
Coming into the fight of the back of two losses against Srisaket Sor Rungvisai, Gonzalez was matched well to get the victory. Fuentes was coming up from reigns at lower divisions and Gonzalez had too much power.
Cut from a clash of heads in the second, Fuentes struggled to deal with Gonzalez. The Nicaraguan ended the fight in the fifth with a crushing right hand.
A third fight with Srisaket has been touted for Gonzalez. Whilst a challenge against WBA ruler Kal Yafai could be more likely.
PRELIMINARIES
Vergil Ortiz was able to take care of business against former WBC Silver champion Roberto Ortiz in two rounds. The 20 year-old continued his progress to the top end of the rankings and pushed to 11-0 – all by knock out.
Featherweight Brian Ceballo took just 34 seconds to dispatch of David Thomas to lay down the fifth professional win of his career. Whilst Alexis Rocha won an eight-round decision over Carlos Cervantes.
Earlier, super middleweight Jaba Khositashvili carded a six-round unanimous decision. The 28 year-old beat previously undefeated Lawrence King to improve to 4-0.
