Caleb Plant certain he’s no stepping stone for Trevor McCumby

Former super middleweight champion Caleb Plant plans to make the rising Trevor McCumby regret signing on the dotted line for their contest.

The pair meet on the undercard of Plant’s ex-opponent Canelo’s clash with Edgar Berlanga in Las Vegas. Plant has one victory in three after facing three top foes in his last trio of bouts.

Last time out, Plant lost to David Benavidez eighteen months ago amid predictions his career is on the slide. Meanwhile, McCumby is 28-0 and where Plant was before the Canelo fight, on the cusp of the big time.

‘Sweet Hands’ aims to welcome McCumby to the top level by ending his undefeated run next month.

“I’ve been using my time wisely. I’m proud to say that you’ll see the best Caleb Plant of my career on September 14,” predicted Plant. “Trevor wants to be part of the big leagues. What he thinks he’s going to get and what he’s actually going to get are way different.

“I live by the sword and die by the sword. Make sure you save that money, Trevor, because this will be your first and last payday. On September 14, I’ll get my hand raised in fashion. This is his first and last opportunity.”

McCumby is well aware that he’ll be sent back to also-ran contention if he can’t sweep aside Plant at the T-Mobile Arena. The 31-year-old is looking to put himself in the mix to be Canelo’s following opponent in May 2025.

“I’m gonna show everyone what I’m all about on September 14,” said McCumby. “I’m not really concerned about what Caleb says or what he does.

“I think he’s kind of insecure. I’m a grown man and conduct myself in a certain way. We’re definitely going to see it on September 14. I’m not sleeping on silk sheets. He is.

“We’ll see if he gets on his bike or if he wants to fight in the center of the ring. I’m ready, and I’m training hard. I promise you this is going to be a great fight.”

Prime Video PPV, DAZN PPV, and PPV.com will broadcast Canelo vs Berlanga on September 14 from T-Mobile Arena. Sign up at any of those networks.
