Terence Crawford’s trainer Bomac opens up on UK jail treatment

Brian McIntyre has discussed his stint in a UK jail after being found in possession of a gun when cornering for Chris Eubank Jr.

‘Bomac’ served a short sentence when remanded in custody following the discovery of a firearm in his bag as he attempted to return home from England. McIntyre admitted he was careless due to traveling so much leading up to his arrest.

Speaking to Andre Ward for All the Smoke Boxing, McIntyre was open and honest about his error.

“That was an honest mistake,” McIntyre told Ward. “I left the pistol in my suitcase as we had been traveling and hadn’t been home since May. To be honest with you, we switched out guns because the gun that they kept over there [in camp] was too big for me to carry, so I put it in a suitcase. I said I was going to put this in a suitcase, and I knew nobody was going to come into my room messing with it, and then we were gone for months and months at a time; you tend to forget about it.

“And sure enough, when they said [at the airport], Mr. Mcintyre, can we see you over here? One thought came into my head because they kept saying, “You have got ammonia in your bag.” I was like, ‘I ain’t got no ammonia, is it bleach or something?” And then something hit me. I said, “Man, I hope that gun ain’t in there. And when they came around that corner, that little black box. My heart dropped.”

On his time behind bars in the United Kingdom, Bomac added, “It was cool. I didn’t have any problems.

“Listen, man, all the things they say about prison people giving you stuff or guards looking out for you, fame, and all that s*** are true because I didn’t want for anything over there.

“When I first got taken to the police station, everybody already knew. So I walked into the police station and they were like, ‘Dang, Bo!’

Here’s where things started getting better for me: one of the guards came to me. I had an out-of-country number. Man, he brought me my cell phone and said, “Call your wife.” They took me out back, let me call my wife, and I told her if you heard from me in twelve hours, that meant they weren’t going to charge me, but if you don’t hear from me for three or four days, that meant they are taking me to prison.

“So I just did the ordeal, and things just started happening for me. And after a while, the first week, I was like, “Man, I’m going to do about twelve years. Then the lawyer came to visit me, and he said ” Don’t worry about it, I am going to get you out.”
