Oscar De La Hoya blasts Top Rank rumor, Canelo and Jake Paul

Oscar De La Hoya launched his latest firing-back session on Thursday, denying a rumor before aiming at Canelo and Jake Paul.

The Golden Boy Chairman addressed reports that Jaime Munguia had signed for Top Rank before his next fight. Munguia is slated to return in the coming weeks, with opponents in the Top Rank stable being considered.

However, De La Hoya says if Munguia signs on the dotted line for the fight, it will only be a one-fight deal with Top Rank on their network.

“Lots of rumors saying that Jaime Munguia is going to Top Rank. Wrong! He is still with Golden Boy but is just fighting on ESPN for his next fight. It’s just a different network,” said De La Hoya.

Heading into his next ‘Clapback,’ the former ten-time world champion aired his thoughts on former GBP star Canelo Alvarez facing Edgar Berlanga.

“The September 14th fight has been made. Canelo Alvarez vs. Edgar Berlanga. A fight that nobody asked for. Fans are starting to boycott Canelo for continuing to duck; you know who [David Benavidez]. Also, they are going up against the UFC at the Sphere. Good luck with making a splash with that one.”

Finally, it was Jake Paul’s turn after the YouTuber fought another hapless UFC fighter and completely dominated the fight from start to finish with a massive weight advantage.

De La Hoya said, “Jake Paul won his last fight over the weekend. Jake, I have told you before that if you want to legitimize yourself in the sport of boxing, you have to take a different path.

“I have the perfect opponent for you to gain the respect of the boxing community. What you are doing right now is regressing skill-wise. It’s not making you a better fighter. Just call me,” he added.

Who that opponent is remains a mystery as Paul continues to tread water in the sport until he makes a bundle of cash against Mike Tyson.

One noticeable thing about De La Hoya’s latest ‘Clapback Thursday’ was the fact he’d taken time out this time around to read the one-minute segment from a dummy card. His first effort in the series was off the cuff, meaning De La Hoya is deadly serious about holding people in boxing accountable.

Look out for his next edition on Thursday.
