Amir Khan has confirmed the mission in 2017 is simple. To avenge his 2012 defeat to Danny Garcia after a triumphant return to action.
The 29 year-old outlined his plans to WBN in a previous article earlier in the week and hoped to have a warm-up in the UK this New Year before challenging Garcia for the WBC welterweight title in May.
WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman recently stated to WBN that Khan remains mandatory for Garcia at 147 pounds on the back of his loss to Canelo Alvarez at 155 this spring, which effectively means Khan can choose when he opposes Garcia – something the Briton has made his number one priority.

“I’d love to fight Danny Garcia. He’s number one on my hit list,” Khan exclusively told World Boxing News. “Getting revenge on him. Also, taking the WBC title would be a dream come true for me.”
Garcia is currently being linked to an eye-catching unification with Keith Thurman. This could mean two belts would be up for grabs for Khan next year.
However, only if ‘Swift’ can get past ‘One Time’ once they both agree to an undefeated clash.
“Garcia v Thurman would be a great fight and could go either way,” he said, “I’d obviously want Garcia to win, though, and I believe he could edge it by fighting the better opposition and having more experience.”
Breidis Prescott
Khan was also asked whether his mindset was to overturn the Garcia loss. Or whether he could also target Breidis Prescott and Lamont Peterson.
He was unsure those bouts would make any sense at this point in his career.
“Prescott has had a few losses since he beat me, so that fight wouldn’t sell as much as a Peterson or Garcia fight would,” explained Khan. “But ask any fighter out there if they will fight anyone and a fighter loves to avenge a loss.
“If I had to fight Prescott, Peterson, and Garcia in a row for my next three fights, I would. But financially, there are bigger fights out there for me.”
A final question to Khan was about his current weight following a disappointing move up eight pounds against Canelo.
Does he see a future for himself at 154 pounds at some point?
“For now, 147 is my natural weight, but I would move into 154 when I feel it’s the right time and my body needs it naturally.”
