Anthony Joshua vs Deontay Wilder – AJ has stated there’s nothing special about a potential meeting with fellow-world heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder but promises they will meet.
In an interview on JDโs In The Duffle Bag podcast, Joshua played down the Wilder competition, saying: โHeโs just another fighter to me.โ
Speaking to 150 excited fans at a meet and greet at JDโs Oxford Street flagship store, the unified heavyweight champion said: โIโve come through with a strict goal to be the best I can be. Wherever that takes me is better than when I started.
โBy going out there and constantly fighting champion after champion. It shows at least to the person who hasnโt got a clue about boxing, โah that geezer over there is definitely fighting decent fighters.โโ
โWilder is a talented fighter. But he’s just another fighter to me that Iโd like to challenge.โ
Wilderโs camp has strongly refuted AJโs claims of a potential โcurveballโ fight. Which would see a unification bout with the Watford-born boxer instead of a trilogy-concluding fight with Fury.
Joshua has promised fans that his Wilder fight will happen. Even suggesting it will be โcrazy for the history of boxingโ if the two never meet in the ring.
โWe’re in the same era in terms of like the 2000(s) era. The same division, heavyweight. We’ve both got some belts.
โItโll be crazy for the history of boxing 1000 years from now – when everyoneโs not here – for them to look back like them two never fought, it just doesnโt make sense.โ
LEGACY
AJ ended by adding: โFor legacy and history, the fight will definitely happen.โ
Joshua was making his first public appearance of the new year, joining 150 eager fans at an intimate meet and greet at the retailerโs flagship store and also appeared on their podcast – โIn the Duffle Bagโ – which was hosted by DJ Chuckie and gamer Elz the Witch.
