An Instagram post by WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder, released late on Saturday night, has cast a further shadow on a possible agreement with Anthony Joshua.
In a weekend when fans held out hope of a contract being delivered and signed by Wilder through Matchroom Boxing for a massive undisputed unification, ‘The Bronze Bomber’ has labeled Joshua a ‘pussycat’ – leading to rumors the paperwork may not have been forthcoming.
WBN expects an update on the situation this weekend, although Wilder’s post – which shows two men laughing as details of his $50m offer to Joshua are played out underneath – gives those wishing the deal is completed less hope.
Friday was named as the day Wilder’s advisor, Shelly Finkel, would have the contract in his hand for Deontay to sign, but with 36 hours elapsed, there’s no solid information yet.
Wilder’s social media activity is all the boxing fraternity can go on this Sunday. Hopefully, it will be just a bump in the road to the deal eventually being done. Wilder’s representatives have just days to complete the deal as a fight for Joshua opposite Alexander Povetkin in September is set to be rubber-stamped next week if no amicable conclusion is reached.
