The father of Floyd Mayweather’s grandson, NBA Youngboy, is facing a ten-year jail sentence for federal gun charges after intending to plead guilty.
NBA Youngboy, real name Kentrell Gauldren, was arrested for allegedly having a 9 mm Glock despite being forbidden to have guns due to his status as a felon.
The rapper hopes a guilty plea will give him the best opportunity to bring the case to his hometown and fight for a lesser sentence. But if convicted, Gauldren faces a lengthy spell behind bars. This situation will have a knock-on effect on Mayweather, who will have to step up further to look after NBA Youngboy’s son.
NBA Youngboy had Kentrell Gauldren Jr., also known as ‘KJ’ or ‘Meezy’ Mayweather, with Floyd’s daughter Iyanna in 2021. Mayweather regularly showcases his grandson on social media.
KJ, 3, is a budding young boxer with a solid punch despite his tender age. Several viral clips of KJ in the gym point to a future in the sport under the guidance of his boxing legend grandfather.
The charges against KJ’s dad only add further to years of uncertainty over KJ’s parents, who both have faced prison over the last few years.
Iyanna was charged previously with a 2020 stabbing attack on a female victim linked to NBA Youngboy. The 25-year-old was sentenced to six years probation despite fears she’d end up behind bars. Mayweather’s influence was said to have played a part in keeping Iyanna out of jail. However, the same cannot be said of Gauldren.
The Baton Rouge native and his entourage, who were shooting a music video, reportedly had more than one weapon in their possession. NBA Youngboy also faces several charges in Cache County and Weber County for unrelated incidents.
Court dates in late August and September will determine whether there is further risk of potential incarceration, fining, or a suspended sentence for the musician.
Floyd Mayweather returns to the ring on August 24 in Mexico, days before NBA Youngboy’s next day in court.
