Floyd Mayweather’s grandson faces years without a jailed father

Floyd Mayweather will be required to take on more responsibility for his grandson after NBA Younboy pled guilty to a federal weapons charge.

The boxing legend has been hands-on with Kentrell Gauldren Jr. since the child of daughter Iyanna, and the controversial rapper was born in 2021. Despite his tentative years, KJ, also known as ‘Meezy,’ has even been spotted at the Mayweather Gym going through his paces.

KJ may have to spend more time with his grandfather in the coming months as NBA Youngboy could be incarcerated for up to ten years. As World Boxing News reported last week, Kentrell Sr. was ready to admit the case against him, which came with a maximum sentence of a decade.

Due to his guilty plea, Kentrell should be able to avoid the full extent of the law. However, NBA Younboy still faces years behind bars, even if he has reduced that to a few years.

He told the court, “I wish to plead guilty to the offense charged,” and signed a declaration which soon circulated on social media.

The charge against NBA Youngboy was filed from an incident in September 2020 in his hometown of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Gaulden, a convicted felon, is not allowed to possess a gun. Police arrested him alongside a group of others during a music video shoot. The 20-year-old was found in possession of a Glock .45 caliber pistol and a 9 mm firearm and hauled him into prison.

An official sentencing hearing date has yet to be decided.

Floyd Mayweather is currently away in Mexico and is preparing to face John Gotti III in a rematch this weekend. His team will update the former five-weight world champion about the situation.
