Floyd Mayweather’s grandson could fight pro before father is free

Floyd Mayweather’s grandson will be old enough to fight professionally before his father leaves jail if NBA Youngboy gets the full punishment.

The father of KJ ‘Meezy’ Mayweather is facing a fifteen-year jail sentence after the FBI added more gun charges. KJ is just three and will be 18 when Youngboy gets out if the maximum sentence is carried out.

World Boxing News reported that Youngboy intended to plead guilty and face a decade behind bars. In a further blow, after ‘Never Broke Again’ issued his plea, US authorities brought new charges on August 19, increasing the maximum sentence by another five years.

WBN initially thought NBA Youngboy, real name Kentrell Gauldren, would face lesser jail time because he admitted his guilt. However, that’s no longer the case, as his career and time with his son hang in the balance due to separate charges.

The rapper was arrested for allegedly having two guns in his possession at a video shoot despite being forbidden to have any weapons due to his status as a felon. Following his arrest, Youngboy aimed to bring the case from Louisiana to his hometown in Utah and fight for a lesser sentence. The logistical move can happen, but the lesser charges no longer seem possible unless some get dismissed.

His latest ‘felon in possession of a firearm’ charges came in the US District Court, where Youngboy hopes to have his host of charges combined. Youngboy separately stands accused of possessing a Sig Sauer P365 9mm semi-automatic pistol, which the prosecutor in the case clarified that anyone “previously been convicted of a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year.”

The arrest took place in April 2024, according to court documents, which stem from a prescription drug fraud raid that also involved the controversial musician.

“A suspect calls in a prescription, claiming the identity of a real doctor and using a fraudulent patient name and birthday, all for Promethazine with Codeine. Sometime after the prescriptions are called in, they are filled and picked up by [YoungBoy and people referred to as ‘Known Associates’ 1 and 2],” said the official papers.

If convicted of all 64 charges hanging over him, Gauldren faces a lengthy spell behind bars and will not see the child he fathered with Iyanna Mayweather in 2021 as a free man, possibly until ‘Meezy’ – now only three years old – is a teenager. Floyd Mayweather will have increased responsibilities and be the only significant male figure in KJ’s life.

Further court dates in September will shed more light on what sentence could be handed down.

Mayweather is away in Mexico after fighting John Gotti III in an exhibition on Saturday night. The boxing superstar shows no signs of slowing down in his career and could be back in the ring by the end of the year.

Victor Ortiz, who fought on Mayweather’s undercard, could be in line for a rematch after the pair first fought in 2011. Mayweather’s grandson has yet to attend a boxing event, and unless the Ortiz fight happens in the United States, it’s unlikely the Ortiz event will be his first.

KJ already shows boxing off his skills despite his tender years and regularly visits the gym with his grandfather. Floyd has already labeled ‘Meezy’ the future of the Mayweather brand.
