Gervonta Davis may have to rethink his next move after a double whammy hit plans to fight at the T-Mobile Arena on November 2.
No sooner had World Boxing News confirmed the possibility of Davis facing Shakur Stevenson on the date and venue in question had both been placed immediately in jeopardy.
Davis trainer Kenny Ellis expressed his thoughts on Stevenson stepping up to the plate. The respected coach believes the WBC lightweight champion will decline the offer.
“I would love to fight Shakur because I always said Shakur and Tank were the best, but Shakur, for some reason, isn’t going to take it,” Ellis told ES News. “We wanted to fight Loma, but he isn’t taking it, so it’s whoever they feed us.”
Stevenson seems focused on William Zepeda in the early stages of 2025. However, potentially missing the next six months would not help the free agent’s career at this current crossroads.
The pound-for-pound star still sees the Zepeda fight happening regardless of whether he takes an interim fight.
“Zepeda pushed back the fight [but it] will happen in February,” said Stevenson. “We all know, including Oscar, [that] I’m gone sign the [Zepeda] contract regardless. If it’s not any of the top names or belt holders, who [are] clearly not interested in making a fight with me, they are going to be mad. But I’m staying sharp regardless,” he added.
With Stevenson as the opponent in doubt, the date on the calendar of November 2 could also prove improbable at their first-choice venue.
Gervonta Davis faces November 2 block at T-Mobile Arena
Looking at the T-Mobile Events Schedule for the next few months, the Golden Knights Hockey Team – who call the 20,000-capacity arena their home, have several game dates penciled in. One of those, unfortunately for Davis, is November 2.
The tentative date doesn’t mean the Knights can’t be switched out when the official fixture list is revealed on Tuesday, though. Whatever happens, Davis could easily move over the road to the MGM Grand, which is currently accessible through the whole month of November.
Working on behalf of Davis, Al Haymon, Premier Boxing Champions, and Tom Brown will be fully aware of the available venues and dates. Arenas in New York and Los Angeles will also be earmarked as backups, with other dates remaining on the table.
WBN understands that Vegas on November 2 remains the favored spot for ‘Tank’ as the WBA lightweight champion looks to round out the year with a second headline event. Earlier this year, Davis stopped Frank Martin after a spell out of action due to a spell in prison following his knockout win over Ryan Garcia in 2023.
