Alycia Baumgardner targets Katie Taylor-Amanda Serrano winner

Knockout puncher Alycia Baumgardner returns to the ring September 27 on Brinx.TV, and has only super-fights in her crosshairs going forward.

The flashy female fighter has a strong pro boxing record of 15 wins (7 KOs) against just one defeat, which she avenged, and in Fayetteville next month takes on one of her biggest challenges as she’ll trade leather with 52-bout veteran Delfine Persoon.

Speaking to World Boxing News, in an upcoming episode of the Combat X show on Swerve Combat, Baumgardner told us she wants a statement win in September before targeting the winner of the Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano super fight in November.

“After the fight with Delfine, I think a fight with Katie makes sense,” Baumgardner told WBN, adding that she’s been vocal with promoter Matchroom, who also represents Taylor, about that bout. “I want this fight,” she said.

Taylor and Serrano fought once already in an historic event as they headlined Madison Square Garden in New York City in April, 2022.

Though Serrano appeared to trouble Taylor midway through the 10-round fight, the Irishwoman edged a split decision win to advance her unbeaten record to 21 wins (6 KOs). The fight received widespread acclaim and even earned Fight of the Year, and Event of the Year, honors from sportswriters.

“That showed me the capacity of where that particular fight could go,” Baumgardner said, looking back at the event.

“They showcased that with fight week, and the attendance of the fight — that was history. You can’t tell me that’s not possible with another woman’s fight at Madison Square Garden. It was a close fight.”

After the Serrano fight, Taylor beat Karen Carabajal but lost a majority decision to Chantelle Cameron, before winning their rematch in 2023. Now, she has another rematch, taking on Serrano on November 15, who has put together five wins in a row since the defeat in New York.

“I think this next fight will really show, again, the age difference, time difference. Boxing is like dog years,” said Baumgardner. “You have one fight, and it can be completely different [in the rematch].

“It will be an action-packed fight between two great fighters,” she added.

And, though she’s campaigned to Matchroom for a super-fight with Taylor, Baumgardner told World Boxing News she’d welcome either opponent, should Serrano level the scoreline.

“I’m looking forward to [fighting] the winner of that fight,” she said.

The Taylor vs Serrano rematch could become even more historic than the Madison Square Garden showdown as OTT monster Netflix is broadcasting the fight from the 80,000-capacity AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The women’s battle is the co-main event to Mike Tyson’s return to the ring aged 58 against 27-year-old Jake Paul.

Baumgardner’s return to the ring, meanwhile, airs globally on Brinx.TV and Fubo Sports.
