Derek Chisora claimed a shock victory on Saturday night but made little sense in the aftermath as the Briton tried to explain his future.
‘WAR’ fought for ten rounds against a below-par Joy Joyce, claiming a points win at the O2 Arena in London. In his post-fight interview, Chisora spoke to TNT Sports to confirm his next fight in Manchester.
The rest of what Chisora stated was largely incoherent ramblings.
“It did say it was a better fighter than Dillian Whyte,” said Chisora. “I don’t know where you put that. It was a great fight. I enjoyed it. It was beautiful, bro. It was beautiful, it was beautiful, it was beautiful.”
One thing that did make sense was Chisora stating he should retire.
“It’s hard to say goodbye, but it’s almost time. You’ll see me in Manchester next.”
According to CompuBox, Joyce getting the verdict wouldn’t have been a controversy.
“Derek Chisora used timely power punching to overcome Joe Joyce. In the end, Joyce actually landed more total punches, going 211 of 835, 25%, and Chisora, 192 of 564, 34%.
“Chisora did hold an advantage in power punching, landing 163 compared to 151 for Joyce. Chisora dropped Joyce with an overhand right in the 9th round. Scores were 97-92 and 96-94 twice,” said CompuBox.
After his loss, though, Joyce vowed to return. He stated, “It wasn’t to be last night. It was a great battle. Congratulations, Derek Chisora, on your victory!
Thanks to my fans for supporting me. I’ll be back,” he added.

Chisora said, “Six years ago today, I fought Carlos Takam at The O2 on an amazing night. In my last fight there against Joe Joyce, I showed you all that I’ve still got it. Thank you for all the support. I love boxing.”
Promoter Frank Warren added, “Thank you, London, for the atmosphere last night, fitting of the two warriors in Derek and Joe. When Derek Chisora debuted with me in 2007, I never thought he’d still be going today!
“Last night was British boxing at its best!”
