Gervonta Davis vs Stevenson denied / Catterall vs Prograis blow

Gervonta Davis and Shakur Stevenson spoke out this week against reports both fighters had agreed on their next fights.

Rumors circulated that the lightweight world champions could clash in 2024, with Stevenson also being considered for a potential arrangement to face William Zepeda.

Gervonta Davis vs Stevenson

All reports have been branded as fake or false, as the dates of October 12 for Stevenson vs. Zepeda and November 23 for Davis vs. Stevenson were denied.

World Boxing News now understands there are no plans for Davis to battle Stevenson this year. Davis attempted to secure a unification with Vasiliy Lomachenko in the late fall until the Ukrainian confirmed he wouldn’t return until 2025. Davis is expected to fight later in the year before possibly reigniting his interest in Lomachenko next spring.

Stevenson is currently mulling promotional offers after leaving Top Rank under a cloud.

Catterall vs Prograis update

Meanwhile, two possible future Davis and Stevenson opponents will have to wait to decide who will win their contracted bout at super-lightweight.

Jack Catterall suffered an injury, meaning his clash with Regis Prograis will be delayed until at least October.

Matchroom Boxing said, “Our August 24 event at Co-op Live in Manchester is canceled due to an injury sustained to Jack Catterall. Further details will follow. Ticket refunds are available from your point of purchase.”

The fact that no new date was offered only means there could be problems securing a future date at the Co-op Live venue. Manchester’s latest high-capacity arena is much sought-after following a grand opening.

If Catterall vs. Prograis cannot find a valid date on the Co-op calendar, WBN understands that the Manchester Arena could be used.
