Canelo Alvarez has predicted a knockout victory over Edgar Berlanga following his opponent’s declaration that he’s aiming for the same outcome.
On Saturday night, the Mexican superstar will defend his clutch of world titles against Berlanga at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The pair enjoyed a grudge match build-up, and tension rose before the first bell.
As Berlanga pushes to use his notable power to become the first to halt Canelo, his upcoming nemesis outlined his wish to score the stoppage.
“It’s easy to say you’ll knock me out, but it’s much more difficult to do it,” Canelo told Berlanga. “Saturday night is going to be very difficult for him, for sure.
“I’ve prepared for the knockout. I love the feeling of a knockout. I’m going to do my best to get it done. I can’t wait for Saturday night. This is going to be a great matchup for the people. Mexico vs. Puerto Rico is always exciting.
“I always put one hundred percent into my fights and into training, no matter who I’m fighting. It’s the same mentality in every fight. This is no exception. I’ve had a great training camp, and I’m ready.
On topping Mexican Independence Day weekend again despite UFC Noche going head-to-dead on the night, Canelo added, “It’s an honor to fight on this date. Mexican Independence Day is very important for us. It’s very special. I’m very proud to fight for the Mexican people.
“The fans mean everything to me. I appreciate them. They support me no matter what, and I’m thankful to everyone who’s supported me throughout my career. I want to show everyone that I’m still the best.”
Concluding on when he may retire after a decade and more at the top, Canelo stated, “I still love this sport. When I stop loving it, you’ll know. I love my routine. I love going to the gym every day.”
