Terence Crawford was confused for musician Kendrick Lamar on Saturday night at UFC Noche, highlighting the pound-for-pound number one’s ongoing struggle.
‘Bud’ wasn’t recognized by producers on the show in a move later laughed off by UFC boss Dana White. But on the face of it, Crawford should be embarrassed that he’s not well-known enough despite all his sports accomplishments.
“I was talking to Terence Crawford, but I don’t know who the hell did that, though,” said White at the post-fight press conference for UFC 306 at The Sphere. “That was pretty bad. He did kind of look like Kendrick Lamar, though,” he jokingly added.
“So when I said we had a flawless production tonight, I take that back. That was the one.”
Dillon Danis commented, ‘ Someone at UFC was getting fired,’ but that doesn’t seem to be the case as White found the funny side.
Sitting next to the ‘Most Influential Combat Sports Person’ in the World’ didn’t help the Omaha man. Crawford posed next to Turki Alalshikh, smiling and throwing air punches, but little did the two-weight undisputed champion know what that caption read on screen.
If that were Canelo or Gervonta Davis, it would never have happened in a million years. Therefore, Crawford continues to experience pushback in his attempt to reach the average household.
Another social media response stated, “Kendrick Lamar just called out Canelo,” as Crawford issued another challenge to the Mexican warrior. Canelo defended his super middleweight titles the same night as UFC 306 by out-pointing Edgar Berlanga over twelve rounds.
A fight between the pair could still happen in May. Canelo’s recent opponent choices have not impressed fans and media.
