Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather received a hero’s welcome in Mexico, which pleased event organizers despite the ticket website for his forthcoming event crashing.
Mayweather stepped off his private jet and walked onto the tarmac in Mexico City late last night. Even though it was just before midnight, a vibrant group of mariachis surprised him with traditional Mexican music. In an unexpected and heartfelt gesture, Mayweather stopped to listen and joined in the celebration, dancing to the music and embracing one of the mariachis, clearly showing his joy and gratitude.
“This is something that has never been seen before,” one witness said. “Watching Floyd Mayweather enjoying Mexican music and sharing this special moment was simply epic.”
Floyd Mayweather arrives in Mexico City
Before heading to his hotel, Mayweather took a moment to send a message to his Mexican fans as he prepared to fight John Gotti III for the second time on August 24.
“I am very grateful to be here in Mexico City. This is a place full of history and world champions. It is an honor for me to fight in this country that has given so much to the boxing world. See you soon in the ring.”

The boxing legend seems happy despite a spate of shoulders being shrugged on social media every time DAZN attempts to promote the event. At 47, Mayweather will be hard-pressed to bring back the glory days in what is a controversial match-up in the first place.
‘Money’ may be banking on the undercard as a hit, with former opponent Victor Ortiz and Mexican protege Alan Picasso Romero featuring in separate bouts.
Meanwhile, when World Boxing News attempted to review the prices, a ticket link for the Mayweather vs. Gotti III card no longer worked. As of early Wednesday morning, it still hasn’t been fixed. It’s uncertain whether this mishap will negatively affect the bout’s total attendance.
