No sign of boxing return for Tommy Morrison’s son after car wreck

Tommy Morrison’s hard-hitting son Trey Morrison is no closer to a heavyweight return three years after his last fight.

The 34-year-old was involved in wrecks during the spring and summer of 2023, the last of which put Morrison in the intensive care unit [ICU]. At the time, promoter Tony Holden said Trey was a lucky man and needed months to recover.

“Trey Lippe Morrison left the hospital this morning and is going home. It’s been a difficult time for Trey and his family, not knowing his outcome. Trey is proof that we can overcome anything,” said the Bali-based boxing man.

Trey updated his followers a short time later when saying, “For having eight bolts and screws put in my spine, I’d say it’s pretty good to be already running two miles a day for three weeks.”

Despite his recuperation powers, Morrison will need the okay from the Oklahoma State Athletic Commission. WBN understands that Morrison has yet to gain permission from OSAC to compete. Had the Commission granted Morrison a license in 2024, the 18-1 puncher would undoubtedly be sharing a bill with his brother Kenzie at Madison Square Garden on October 23.

Kenzie tops the MSG bill against Mike Balogun, ironically the only man to defeat Trey back in 2021. Kenzie aims to correct a family wrong against Balogun, a fight that may have been offered to Trey if he had been licensed to box. Balogun stopped Morrison in one round in what was a stunning knockout as Top Rank began to help guide Trey’s career.

As of now, Trey’s future as a boxer remains unclear. Morrison turns 35 later this month and will be four years without a fight come December.

Unless there’s a drastic change in the next two years, Trey Morrison faces a future without the sport in what would be a travesty for his undoubted talent. For now, Morrison has returned to work as a landscaper.

WBN would like to wish Trey success with his continued recovery and hopes to see him back in action soon, provided his injuries allow.
