Unranked Jake Paul ‘on world champion path’ – still eyes Canelo

Jake Paul says he’s on the path to becoming world champion despite not being ranked by any sanctioning organization.

The YouTuber, who fights on November 15 against 58-year-old Mike Tyson, believes the kind of fights he’s participating in will one day be rewarded. The delusion shown by the former Disney child star could be worrying if he wasn’t serious.

Speaking ahead of his clash with Tyson, Paul said, “# I’m still on the path to become world champion. There are a lot of s*** talkers out there, and there are a lot of big names who want to fight me.

“I still want Canelo Alvarez. I want to go on the path to the world championship, and that’s what I’m here to do. And I will make it happen. And when it happens, people are going to go, ‘God damn that kid did something we didn’t.'”

Whether Paul believes he’d be in with a chance against Canelo will always be up for debate, but while he’s still facing UFC stars and veterans, it will be too difficult to gauge how good he really is.

November is not even the acid test for Paul, as Tyson is twenty years from being a shot fighter after losing to Danny Williams and Kevin McBride. Tyson is merely using his 1980s reputation to make money in the 2020s, and if Evander Holyfield’s return in 2021 at the same age is anything to go by, Tyson is in for a world of hurt.

Paul, who lost to the hapless Tommy Fury, will have to up his game no matter who he faces in 2025. Four years into his career, he’s still not being taken seriously.
