Floyd Mayweather faced a series of abusive responses after informing fans of his next venture following an exhibition last month.
Mayweather informed fans of an event alongside comedian and political hopeful Jason Lee in the coming weeks. The boxing legend was immediately hit with ‘scammer’ responses over his crypto dealings.
‘Money’ faced questions over his involvement with a crypto campaign, having been fined for promoting the practice on his social media. Several detractors countered as soon as Mayweather outlined what he would be doing next.
“Don’t miss your opportunity to witness this exclusive conversation between Jason Lee and me at The Candidate and The Champ event in Stockton, CA, on October 5th. Get your tickets now,” urged Mayweather.
Replies included “Crypto scammer” and ‘scammer’ before another stated, “What opportunity? To see scammers? The biggest scammer, Floyd Mayweather, in crypto history!”
“This guy, posted CA many times and collected money and deleted the tweet of the CA.”
One posted a picture of Mayweather in boxing trunks with a crypto company promotion on his beltline. Some people won’t allow Mayweather to forget his past advertising partnerships.
Nonetheless, Mayweather returns to the spotlight alongside Lee, the Stockton candidate for council.
Of his campaign, Lee said, “I’ve been running for city council in Stockton for less than a year and just discovered my city and the person I’m running against – the Vice Mayor failed to apply for over $149M in state funding.
“So what I do, brought my guy, Mark Faucette, who the governor appointed to Stockton, to educate all system leaders and the city on how to apply for the next $1.5B in state funding to ensure my community and the people who need it the most get it.
“Performative politics won’t outperform the real work! Stockton deserves better.”
Drafting in Mayweather will add to Lee’s campaign, which concludes next month at the election polls. It’s been less than a month since Mayweather fought John Gotti in an exhibition on Mexican soil, which didn’t exactly set the world alight.
What’s next for Mayweather in the boxing ring is anyone’s guess.
