WBA President Gilberto Mendoza is urged to launch an investigation following a loss suffered by Alivereti Kauyaca against Joseph Parker’s brother, John.
Kauyaca, who is from Fiji, lost via split decision on September 7 in a fight at Claudelands Arena in Hamilton, New Zealand. Although he dropped his first defeat on the night, his team wants the result investigated by the WBA.
Alivereti Kauyaca’s trainer, Farmaan Ali, told World Boxing News that he wants the WBA President to intervene in the sanctioning of the WBA Oceania title fight.
Ali told WBN, “The decision to select all New Zealand officials by WBA Oceania was biased and unfair. All three judges were from New Zealand. Our opponent was from New Zealand. I have been informed that one of the judges was Joshua Nyika, the brother of boxer David Nyika. Joseph Parker‘s Promotional Company manages David. My boxer’s opponent, John Parker, is Joseph Parker’s brother. So, this WBA selection was a big conflict of interest.
“One judge gave us the fight. She was very experienced, and her judging partner was the top boxing referee in New Zealand. He also trains world champion boxer Lani Daniels. The last judge, you have to Google his name to ascertain credibility status, and when it comes to a regional title fight, WBA should have been more professional.
“Therefore, I am calling on the WBA President to declare the fight a no-contest and order a rematch with independent judges, not from any Oceania country.
“All we want is fairness and transparency. The video is on YouTube for the masses to watch and decide for themselves if they see any red flags. There are many,” he added.
Parker was fighting for the third time since suffering his first loss. Meanwhile, Kauyaca holds the same record as Parker due to the split decision at 11-1. At the very least, Kauyaca wants the WBA to order an immediate rematch.
