Floyd Mayweather has tried to put on a show for the fans with his exhibition tour. Sadly, few have been impressed with his ‘Heist Tour’ since its inception.
The ‘Money’ man promised to fight in the United States, Japan, South Korea, Australia, and Germany in March 2023 after clowning around in a lifeless O2 Arena [England] against a TV star the month before.
A shocking undercard topped by Mayweather opposite a ‘Geordie Shore’ contestant would never cut it. On the back of his London farce, Mayweather promised much. He didn’t deliver.
“This is what my 2023 looks like so far. Five exhibitions in five countries in nine months. And if any of these exhibitions don’t happen, I still get paid. I’m the most active hustler in boxing. My money is guaranteed,” he said.
From Floyd’s announcement, transitioning into what actually occurred is chalk and cheese. Mayweather instead fought John Gotti III twice and never ventured outside of the Americas.
One fight ended in a brawl, and the other was forgettable at best. The situation left many wondering why Floyd Mayweather continues to deliver a substandard product.
Japan, South Korea, Australia, and Germany can breathe a sigh of relief at the lack of fulfillment caused by Mayweather’s failed world tour.
The 47-year-old will hopefully cease any further events of this nature instead of taking paydays for no reason other than to stroke his ego.
It’s hard to swallow how low Mayweather continues to sink in his mission to ‘steal from the bank of boxing’ and make a point of it on social media. Mayweather seems to want to stay relevant in the era of YouTubers and fifty-plus legends putting their faculties on the line for the sake of a buck.
Mayweather has millions of followers but hasn’t been able to get 20,000 of them to buy tickets and fill any arena lately. The fact that he doesn’t fight in California or Las Vegas, where he has homes, is another reason to question his tactics.
Heading out of town was undoubtedly to save himself from embarrassment. Unfortunately, the boxing legend’s ridicule has ultimately been unavoidable.
Hopefully, Mayweather will cancel the remainder of his exhibition plans, barring a rematch with Manny Pacquiao, which is the only event that would remotely sell.
